Ci sono motivi di ottimismo, quando si pensa che nel principio del 20esimo secolo poche persone utilizzavano la parola compassione, mentre al giorno d'oggi anche i politici ne parlano.
Analogamente, un secolo fa quasi nessuno pensava all'ecologia e all'ambiente come facciamo oggi.
In più, all'inizio del 20esimo secolo le persone consideravano la guerra e l'uso della forza come l'unico modo per risolvere i problemi, mentre oggi anche questo punto di vista è cambiato.
There are grounds for optimism when you think that in the early 20th century few people used the word compassion, but nowadays even politicians talk about it. Similarly, a century ago hardly anyone thought about ecology and the environment the way they do today. What’s more, in the early 20th century people regarded war and the use of force as the only way to resolve problems, and today that has changed.
